Hobbies Your Elderly Loved One May Want to Try While Stuck at Home

Now that your elderly loved one is stuck at home due to the coronavirus, they may be getting bored and irritated. However, there are many hobbies that your elderly loved one may want to try to improve their attitude and boost their spirits. These hobbies are enjoyed by many elderly adults. Have your elderly loved one try these out to see which ones they enjoy.

Coloring or Sketching

Coloring and sketching are two hobbies that your elderly loved one may enjoy while they are stuck at home. You can order your elderly loved one some coloring books or sketching materials and have them mailed to their home. Maybe your elderly loved one enjoy Disney movies. If so, you can get them Disney coloring books. If they enjoy sketching, get them a sketchpad. If you don’t have any way to order these materials, you can have one of their caregivers pick these things up from the store.

Sewing or Knitting

Do you think that your elderly loved one would enjoy sewing or knitting? This might be tough for some elderly adults. However, if you think that your elderly loved one would be capable of taking up this hobby, get them the stuff to do it. If they are interested but don’t know how to sew or knit, you can find online videos to help them learn. This can be a great time for them to pick up a new hobby.

Writing

Your elderly loved one could benefit from writing, as well. They could write a story about their life, make up a story, or just do some journaling on their emotions. This can be very helpful during the coronavirus pandemic. While being stuck at home, it is helpful for people to have something to do at all times, in case they get bored. Writing can keep your elderly loved one occupied.

Yoga or Pilates

Yoga and pilates are other great hobbies that your elderly loved one can take part in. Both of these will help your elderly loved one to stay physically in shape and help relieve stress while stuck at home. There are many online videos that can help teach your elderly loved one how to practice yoga and pilates. There are also many smartphone or tablet apps they can use to learn how to practice these types of exercise, as well.

Puzzles

Your elderly loved one may also enjoy doing puzzles. There are many different sized puzzles, so your loved one can do a puzzle that fits their skill level. These range anywhere from around 25 pieces to thousands of pieces. Once your elderly loved one is done doing a puzzle, they could frame it and hang it on their wall.

These are some of the hobbies that your elderly loved one may want to try while they are stuck at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Have them try one or more of these out to see what they will enjoy the most.
